About Ply & Pan
A site about stainless-clad cookware, written for people who resent having replaced three nonstick pans in five years.

Who writes this
Michael W.. Michael W. is the hands-on owner behind The First Buyer. He buys the cookware he writes about and keeps it long enough to find out how it holds up.
That is the complete set of credentials, and it is stated in full deliberately. Every competitor in this category leans on credentialed testers — culinary school graduates, professional chefs, institutional test kitchens. We do not have those, and inventing them would be both the easiest thing to falsify and the fastest way to deserve being ignored.
Why this site exists
Because nobody reviews cookware for how long it lasts.
Read the major roundups and they all answer the same question: which pan cooks best right now? That is a reasonable question and it is not the one a buy-it-for-life buyer is asking. The question here is different: which pan will still be flat, tight and usable in fifteen years, and what happens if it is not?
That turns out to lead somewhere specific. It leads to reading warranty documents rather than warranty headlines, and discovering that every lifetime warranty in this category excludes the two ways your pan is most likely to fail. It leads to caring about oven ratings more than ply counts, because exceeding a published ceiling is what moves damage from the manufacturer's column to yours. And it leads to recommending a cheaper pan more often than a commission-funded site comfortably should.
The thesis
Stainless-clad cookware bought once. Tri-ply against 5-ply, All-Clad against Made In against the value clads, the skillet and saucier that do 80% of the work, and how to cook on steel without sticking.
If you read one page here, read the two-pan kitchen. It is the argument the rest of the site is built around.
What this site will not do
- No free samples. We do not accept product from manufacturers.
- No sponsorships or paid placement. No brand has ever paid to appear here and none can.
- No invented testing. We do not have a test kitchen or a lab, and we say so on how we evaluate. Where we cite performance testing, it is someone else's and we name them.
- No printed prices. Prices change weekly and a printed one is wrong within a month. Every buy link goes to the live listing so you see today's number.
- No invented reviews or ratings. There are no customer testimonials on this site because we have none. A page with no testimonials beats a page with invented ones.
- No fabricated specifications. Every technical claim traces to a manufacturer's published specification or a named publication, listed in the Sources block on each page.
How it is funded
Ply & Pan earns a commission on qualifying purchases made through links on this site, as an Amazon Associate. That is the entire business model, and it creates an obvious tension with recommending cheaper pans. We resolve it the only way that is worth anything: by doing it anyway, in writing, on the pages where it costs us. The full statement is on the affiliate disclosure page.
The publisher
Ply & Pan is published by The First Buyer, a small independent publisher of buy-it-once buying guides. Editorial decisions on this site are made here, not by any brand.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and date the correction rather than editing quietly. The process is on the editorial policy page, and the address is contact@plyandpan.com or the contact form.
What we would like to add
Original photography of these pans after years of use — the discoloration patterns, the scuffed bases, the state of the rivets. A stock product shot proves nothing; a scratched pan on a real hob proves everything. That is the single most valuable thing this site can gain, and it is honest to say we do not have it yet. Product imagery here is licensed stock, labeled as such in every alt description.
